ZED Certification (Zero Defect Zero Effect) is a flagship initiative of India's Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME). Its core purpose is to encourage MSMEs to implement best-in-class manufacturing practices that assure high quality (zero defects) and minimal environmental impact (zero effect).
The ZED Certification goes beyond a mere certificate — it's a comprehensive assessment, handholding, management, and technological intervention program that improves global competitiveness and sustainability of Indian MSMEs.
Manufacturing products with zero defects through quality control systems, process optimization, and continuous improvement methodologies.
Sustainable production with minimal environmental impact — focusing on waste reduction, energy efficiency, and eco-friendly practices.
Alignment with international quality standards making Indian MSMEs competitive in both domestic and global export markets.
ZED Certification offers MSMEs financial, environmental, and social benefits — enhancing competitiveness and sustainability with government-backed subsidies and support.

All UDYAM-registered Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) — recognized by the Ministry of MSME (MoMSME) — are eligible to participate in ZED Certification and avail associated benefits and incentives. This includes both manufacturing and service-sector MSMEs.
ZED Certification is structured into three progressive levels — each demanding higher standards in quality, sustainability, and process excellence.
The entry-level certification — focuses on fundamental quality and environmental standards, encouraging MSMEs to implement foundational practices with low defects and environmental impact.
Requires more stringent criteria than Bronze — emphasizes sophisticated quality management and environmental principles with continuous development and sustainability.
The most advanced accreditation — requires excellence in all production elements including innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness with demonstrated leadership.
Navigate to the ZED Certification Portal. New users must register using UDYAM registration number, mobile, and email. Fill out the application form with comprehensive MSME details.
The cost depends on the certification level (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and MSME size. Complete payment via the secure online gateway and retain a copy of the payment receipt.
Submit all required documents — business registration, financial reports, QMS records, EMS documentation, and other pertinent documents for authentication by ZED authorities.
After document validation, authorized assessment organizations evaluate the MSME on ZED standards. Non-conformities are flagged with a specific timeframe provided for rectification.
Upon reviewing assessment results, the final ZED Certificate is granted reflecting the level attained. The certificate remains valid for a designated duration, after which the MSME may undergo re-evaluation and renewal. The entire process typically takes 10–15 working days.
